1. Z Visa (Work Visa)

• Purpose: Issued to foreign nationals who have secured employment in China and their accompanying family members.
• Key Features:
  • The most common visa for foreigners working in China.
  • Requires a work permit and an invitation letter from the employer.

2. X Visa (Student Visa)

• Purpose: For foreign nationals coming to China for academic study or fieldwork.
• Work Rights:
  • Holders cannot work, but internships may be allowed with the educational institution’s and relevant authorities’ authorization.
• Types:
  • X1 Visa: For long-term studies exceeding 180 days.
  • X2 Visa: For short-term studies of less than 180 days.
• Popular Institutions: China’s top universities, including Nantong University, Dalian Medical University, Fudan University, and Peking University.

3. C Visa (Crew Visa)

• Purpose: Issued to crew members on international aviation, maritime, and land transport missions, along with their accompanying family members.

4. J Visa (Journalist Visa)

• Purpose: For foreign journalists reporting in China, either temporarily or permanently.
• Types:
  • J1 Visa: For journalists stationed in China for at least one year.
  • J2 Visa: For journalists on temporary assignments lasting up to 30 days.

5. G Visa (Transit Visa)

• Purpose: For foreign nationals transiting through China.
• Key Features:
  • Often replaced by the L Visa (Tourist Visa) due to similar costs and application processes.

6. D Visa (Permanent Residence Visa)

7. Q Visa (Family Reunion Visa)

• Purpose: For foreign nationals visiting family members who are Chinese citizens or permanent residents.

  • Q1 Visa:

    • Issued for family members of Chinese citizens or permanent residents.
    • Requires application for a residence permit within 30 days of arrival.
  • Q2 Visa:

S Visa (Visa for Foreign Relatives)

R Visa (Visa for Highly Skilled Individuals)

  • Expedited visa processing is available for R Visa applicants.

Diplomatic and Service Visas

• Purpose: Issued to foreign government officials, staff of diplomatic missions, and UN representatives traveling to China for official missions or accreditation purposes.

Application Guidelines for Chinese Visas

1. Passport

• Requirements:
  • Original passport with at least six months of remaining validity.
  • At least two blank visa pages.
  • A photocopy of the passport’s information and photo pages (if separate).

2. Visa Application Form and Photo

• Requirements:
  • A completed visa application form.
  • One recent passport-sized color photo (bareheaded, full-face) against a light background.

3. Proof of Legal Residence or Status
