Marmara University, Turkey Marmara University, also known as Marmara Üniversitesi, is one of Istanbul’s prominent public universities and the second-largest university in Turkey. It is situated in the Fatih district of Istanbul and is among the oldest higher education institutions in the country. The university was founded on January 16, 1883, by Subhi Pasha under the name Hamidiye Higher School of Commerce. At its inception, the Faculty of Economics was the first institution in Turkey dedicated to education in economics and commerce. The university saw its first 13 graduates in 1877. Over time, it adopted the title School of Economics and Commerce, and with structural changes in subsequent years, it became known as the Istanbul Academy of Economics and Commerce.
